STAR GRADING

The MBSA Star Grading system was specially designed for building sites. It is less sophisticated than similar systems designed for general industry as building sites do not have the same permanency as factory and other premises and does not develop the same degree of infrastructure.

THE SYSTEM AUDITS THE FOLLOWING AREAS:

Administrative and legal requirements

Health and safety education and training

Physical site conditions (with emphasis on those hazards that cause the most incidents)

Health and hygiene

STARS ARE AWARDED AS FOLLOWS:

90% or more	5 stars
80% to 89,9%	4 stars
70% to 79,9%	3 stars
60% to 69,9%	2 stars
50% to 59,9%	1 star
less than 50%	No star

SAFETY COMPETITION

The Regional Safety Competition is conducted annually using the same criteria as for the BIFSA Star Grading System.
Contractors are invited to enter building sites into Regional Safety Competitions in the following categories:

R 5 - <R 10 million

R10 - <R20 million

R20 - <R50 million

R50 - <R120 million

R120 - <R200 million

Finished Products

Sites winning in the regional competition are automatically advanced into the national competition and judged accordingly.
