Public Procurement Bill

The Public Procurement Bill (PPB) is currently before parliament and is being discussed by the portfolio committee on Finance. The committee recently invited public comment on the Bill which is set to transform the way preferential procurement operates in South Africa.

Under current regulations in terms of the Preferential Procurement Polciy Framework Act (PPPFA), government contracts of less than R50 million are handled in terms of the 80/20 principle and contracts over R50 million 90/10. This is set to changed under the new Act however the bill doesn't suggest how this will work, leaving the to regulations which will only come later.
